During my last HVAC tune up, right before the fall season, the HVAC professional asked if he could look at my thermostat.
He wanted to adjust the temperature settings in order to analyze all the parts and pieces. This was the best way for him to make sure that all the HVAC equipment was working properly. When I showed him my thermostat, he asked me if I knew how old it was. The thermostat came with the house when I moved in, so I had no idea about the history of the thermostat. The HVAC professional told me that it appeared to be really old and although it was technically doing it’s job, it wasn’t benefiting me in any way. I had no idea what he was talking about because it was just a thermostat. He then went into detail about the benefits of a smart thermostat. His list sounded like a mile long and it was really hard to keep up with everything he was throwing at me. The HVAC professional told me things like GEOcaching, programmable settings, cell phone apps, and virtual access from anywhere at any time. The smart thermostat sounded amazing, but I was really interested in the price. Before Telling me the price, the HVAC professional told me about the money savings I could experience in the long run by upgrading to a smart thermostat. Then, he threw a generic price range for the different smart thermostats on the market. It all sounded amazing, so I told him that I would think about it. I wanted to do my own research on smart thermostats before committing.
